SPOTLIGHT regulars Twinfix will be joining us again as we move from Scotland to explore rail in Wales. After their events, Quadrant Transport explores the work they have done in both regions and why they are proud to be British manufacturers.

Supplying the roof glazing system for the £8 million refurbishment of Aberdeen’s Station roof, Twinfix were keen to retain the buildings unique appearance and character.

The company’s Georgianwire polycarbonate, which replaced the original glazed panels, was the perfect solution to keep the historical feel of this Category ‘A’ listed building. The Georgian-wired polycarbonate used in the project also made the station lighter and brighter, improving the overall environment.

Installing the 8000 square metres of the Multi-Link-Panel Non-Fragile (NF) system was Macleod Roofing Ltd.

Speaking of this project, David Mackinnon, General Manager for Macleod Roofing Ltd said: “We have worked with Twinfix on several large projects to date. Due to the lightweight nature, strength and versatility of the Twinfix product, you can cover large areas in a limited time, this is really helpful when working on live railway stations when you are restricted to night shifts and trackside possession hours.”

Twinfix’s Multi-Link-Panel NF system is designed with patented fixing methods, resulting in incredibly quick installation times, bringing more than just aesthetic benefits to the project.

Vicky Evans, Director of Twinfix said concerning this project: “Working on Aberdeen Station has been a real honour; I take a particular interest in the work we carry out on listed stations as it is great to help enhance these stations that are so steeped in history.”

From Scotland to Wales

Continuing with their work in the rail industry, Twinfix has also worked on Pembroke Dock station in Wales.

As the station is Grade II listed, as with Aberdeen Station, Twinfix were keen to keep the historic design and character of the station.

This was why the Georgian wired Multi-Link-Panel NF roof glazing was an ideal fit for the station. Not only did it keep the historical feel, but it is also long-lasting and low maintenance.

Twinfix has delivered a fantastic canopy at Pembroke for the community and our passengers

Not only were Twinfix committed to retaining the historical feel of the station, but they were keen to improve the safety of those who work there.

By fitting in-line access hatches into the design, the roofing allows access from underneath. Access from underneath rather than on top of the roof improves safety by reducing the risk of accidents.

Chris Howchin, Capital Delivery Programme Manager at Network Rail said about this work at Pembroke Dock: “Twinfix has delivered a fantastic canopy at Pembroke for the community and our passengers, being brighter, better and of course, in keeping with the station itself.”
